My Easy Chicken Crescent Rolls recipe is made with only 5 ingredients and is one of those great recipes that can be prepared, cooked and on the table in 30 minutes. I use cans of crescent roll dough which I wrap around a delicious filling of creamy, cheesy, chicken. This is a quick dish that the whole family will enjoy, and I rarely have leftovers!
Chicken Crescent Rolls
I’ve been planning to make this Easy Chicken Crescent Rolls Recipe for weeks. This is one of my favorite Pillsbury crescent roll recipes with chicken as it is so quick and easy to prepare.
We have a local grocery store here that makes the most delicious rotisserie chickens, so I thought I’d get one to use in this for some added flavor.
You could also make this with boneless skinless chicken breasts, ninja pressure cooker chicken, or Instant Pot Poached Chicken. My preferred method would be to leave them in the slow cooker all day so they’d be nice and tender.
However, any cooked and shredded chicken would work – you could even use canned chicken.
This easy recipe is quick to prepare and assemble and can be easily doubled up, so it’s great for feeding a crowd.
How to make Easy Chicken Crescent Rolls:
- To begin, I sauté my chopped onions so they are tender and clear, you could even add some diced jalapenos for some spice!
- A dab of butter, olive oil, or cooking spray in the pan helps these cook up nicely.
- Shred the chicken and mix it in a bowl with the cream cheese (can use plain or flavored) and 1 cup shredded cheddar (I used sharp), and the sautéed onions.
- Lay your crescent rolls out so that they form a rectangle.
- I smash the creases together so it holds.
- Now, this recipe calls for 2 cans, I have a cutting board off to the side with 4 more rectangles on it.
- Put a dollop of the mixture onto each roll.
- To start folding them up, bring two opposing corners together over the top.
- Bring in the other two corners.
- Bring in the sides and squish it up to close so the cheese doesn’t melt out.
- Bake the rolls at 375F for about 15-20 minutes.
- TOP TIP – it is crucial to make sure that the crescents cook all the way through you will be left with raw soggy pastry which is not good to eat.
- When they are done, serve warm as they are delicious!
Chicken Crescent Rolls recipe ingredients:
- CHICKEN: I use shredded rotisserie chicken, but any cooked chicken will work. You could use leftovers from the weekend’s roast chicken or even canned chicken.
- CHEESE: I use a combination of shredded cheddar cheese and cream cheese. When it comes to cheddar, I like a sharp cheddar for flavor, but you can use mild cheese if you prefer.
- ONION: add a small finely chopped onion.
- CRESCENT ROLLS: 2 cans of crescent rolls will make 8 chicken crescent rolls.
Flavor variations & substitutions:
- I have dozens of variations in mind to try, from adding dry ranch mix, or crispy bacon bits.
- Swap the cheddar cheese for mozzarella, Parmesan or Gruyere.
- Use different flavors of cream cheese.
- Add extra spices and seasoning like garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin.
- Stir through some freshly chopped herbs like chives, parsley, oregano or basil.
- Add extra veggies for added crunch, like bell peppers, green onions, or corn.
- Why not try my Chicken Pot Pie Crescent Rolls.
- Or how about my Jalapeno Popper Crescent Rolls, or Pizza Crescent Rolls. The options are endless!
Recipe hints & tips:
- Press the creases of the crescent roll together so that the rolls hold their shape in the oven.
- When folding up the crescent rolls, pinch the pastry together so the filling doesn’t have space to escape.
- Make sure you cook the crescent rolls all the way through as nobody will thank you for under cooked, soggy pastry.
Serving suggestion:
These chicken crescent rolls make a great snack, lunch or light dinner dish. I typically serve these some potato sides like my Sheet Pan Garlic Potatoes & Green Beans, or my Oven Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Bacon.
I also like to add some veggie sides like my Sheet Pan Roasted Broccoli, Roasted Green Beans, Fried Okra, and Instant Pot Corn on the Cob. However, you can serve them with any side dishes, a slaw or a fresh tomato and leafy green salad would be ideal.
FAQs
A crescent roll is a flaky crescent shaped roll made with a yeasted dough. It is similar in texture to puff pastry.
Despite both being crescent shaped, a croissant is heavily laminated pastry, whereas a crescent roll has a more bread like consistency.
There are rarely any leftovers when I make this dish at home. However, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. When ready to enjoy pop the crescent roll back into a hot oven to warm through.

My family has enjoyed these chicken bundles for the past 30 yrs! A few things I do differently- I add 3/4 cup chopped celery to sauté along with the onions. I add 1 cup of chopped mushrooms to the chicken & cream cheese mixture & OMIT the sharp cheddar. Before adding the bundles to the oven I brush the tops with melted butter & add a generous sprinkling of seasoned bread crumbs. We top ours with a cream of chicken soup sauce just before serving. Simply add 1/3 soup can of milk to the cream of chicken soup & heat until hot! This is one of our very favorite supper meals. We serve it with a vegetable & mashed potatoes topped with the remaining cream of chicken soup!
