These Strawberry Christmas Tree Bites are so easy and fun to make. Fresh strawberries are placed on an Oreo Cookie base before being covered in Green Candy Melts. Then all you need to do is decorate the Christmas trees with some candy stars and sprinkles.
Strawberry Christmas Tree Bites
We attend several holiday parties throughout the Christmas Season, and I like to take a different treat to each one. It’s the time of year when my kitchen is cranking out lots of sweet Christmas holiday treats!
This year I’ve made Christmas treats with strawberries. Placing a fresh strawberry on top of an Oreo cooking base then decorating the fruit like a Christmas tree.
We don’t regularly eat a lots of sweets, I have a long list of items to try, so the holiday season is the perfect opportunity. First up this year are these easy candy coated strawberry Christmas trees.
I can bake and create to my heart’s content, then send most of the end product to holiday parties, bake sales, and donate to the school craft fairs for fundraising.
Recipe ingredients
- STRAWBERRIES: I use a box of fresh strawberries, look for a box with good sized berries rather than small berries as these are easier to decorate.
- CANDY COATING: I use Green Candy Melts to coat and decorate the strawberries.
- COOKIES: I use a pack of Oreo cookies to form the base of the Christmas tree. You can use any variety of sandwich cookie.
- DECORATION: get as creative as you want with the decoration. I use a combination of Sprinkles Colored Balls, White Sugar Sprinkles, and Star Sprinkles.
How to make Strawberry Christmas Tree Bites
- To begin, wash the strawberries, then cut the tops off of each one.
- Next, twist the Oreos in half, keeping the crème filled side only.
- Pour white sugar sprinkles into a small bowl.
- Crème side down, dip each Oreo into the sugar sprinkles and set aside.
- Melt the green candy melts in a microwave safe bowl according to package directions.
- Using a toothpick or fork, pierce each strawberry and completely coat it with the green candy melts.
- Place the strawberry (cut side down) onto the sprinkle-covered Oreo.
- Using either a toothpick or fork, dab at the melted candy to create the limbs on the Christmas tree.
- Quickly add ball sprinkles for ornaments and star sprinkles on top before candy coating is completely melted.
Recipe variations
- Swap the candy melts for colored butter icing and pipe onto the strawberries.
- You can get real creative with decorating the trees and use any variety of sprinkles, glitter, colored balls or ready made icing stars.
- Add additional sugar sprinkles on the completed Christmas trees to create a snowy effect.
- Or, add a dusting of powdered sugar to create a snowy effect.
Recipe hints & tips
- If you can’t find the Green Candy Melts in your local store, a craft store should have them, or I sometimes get them from Amazon.
- Always use a toothpick when dipping the strawberries as this saves your hands becoming a stick mess.
- Nothing goes to waste in my kitchen. The leftover halves from the Oreo cookies can be added to my Easy Oreo Brownies or Oreo Dump Cake. Alternatively crush the remaining cookies, mixed with melted butter and use as a great base for a chocolate cheesecake.
