This Easy Crock Pot Round Steak Recipe was created after many readers tried and loved my Oven Baked Round Steak Recipe.
Over the years, I’ve had a multitude of requests to know how it could be prepared in the crock pot, so I gave it a try.
You can make this with these new, adjusted ingredients – based off of Mississippi Pot Roast, or with the same ingredients in the oven baked version.
The thing about Round Steak is that it’s a lean, tougher cut of beef, so it needs to cook low and slow to tenderize and let the flavors develop.
Many people seem to be intimidated by it, but I encourage you to give it a try!
Round Steak is one of the less expensive cuts of meat at the supermarket, so it’s very budget friendly.
We’ve lived in many parts of the country over the 23 years we’ve been married, and one thing I’ve noticed is the there is a difference in the size of the cuts, in various markets.
If your cut is THIN, you may need to cook for a shorter amount of time, or it can get tough – like jerky.
If your cut is THICK, you may need to cook for a longer amount of time, or it may not be cooked through and tender.
When cooked the right amount of time, it’s so tender and flavorful, you can cut it EASILY with a fork.
Crockpot times and oven times can also vary, depending on make, model, size, altitude, etc.
I suggest PRINTING out a copy of the recipe, and making note of any changes you’d like to make in the future, to meet your family’s taste preferences and what works best with the appliances you are using.
Additional ingredients you might want to add:
- Sliced Mushrooms
- Sliced Onions
- Sliced Peppers
- 2 whole anaheim peppers – just for cooking, remove before serving, but they will add a slight kick to the gravy!
You could also add peeled & cut potatoes, carrots, green beans, etc to the crock pot and let your vegetables slow cook with the round steak.
I make this Easy Crock Pot Round Steak Recipe at least once a month, so I find it less expensive to purchase the Ranch Seasoning and Brown Gravy in bulk from my local Sam’s Club. The individual packets run over $1 at my local Super Center. The individual packets have about 3 tbsp in them, so you can just measure out 3 tbsp from the bulk jars (or adjust more/less to your taste preference = more is a thicker gravy, less is thinner). Price it out on Amazon and your warehouse club/Supercenters to see which way is most cost effective for your budget!
