Christmas Snack Mix
I really enjoy making different themed chow mixes for each holiday season during the year, and this Christmas Snack Mix, AKA Rudolph Chow Mix, is perfect for the Christmas season.
Christmas Chex Mix can be served in a large bowl at a holiday party, or in individual bags with printable toppers for school parties.
I’m always on the look out for Christmas snack ideas. This easy Christmas snack not only tastes delicious, it’s easy to make and requires no baking, just a bit of melting and stirring!
My Best Christmas snack mix recipe is frequently requested when I’m invited to a holiday event and ask what I can bring. So to make this cost effective, I buy most of the ingredients in bulk at my local warehouse club.
The quantity can be adjusted to meet your needs, and although we rarely have leftovers, I store any we do have in individual Ziploc snack bags for the kids to use as their school snack.
Christmas Snack Mix recipe ingredients
- PEANUT BUTTER: use creamy peanut butter as you need a smooth consistency.
- CHOCOLATE CHIPS: use milk or dark chocolate chips, whichever you prefer.
- CEREAL: I’ve used Rice Chex cereal as it has great crunch.
- SUGAR: Sweeten the snack with powdered sugar which best coats the chocolate covered cereal.
- CANDIES: I add red Sixlets or red M&M’s in the snack mix, you can use any other variety of red circle candy.
- PRETZELS: Use any variety of pretzel, I opted for pretzel sticks.
How to make Christmas Snack Mix
- Add the Rice Chex cereal to a large mixing bowl and set aside.
- In a medium sized glass bowl add in chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave for 1 minute.
- Stir the ingredients together until smooth. If some of the chocolate chips haven’t melted, place back into the microwave for another 15 seconds.
- Once the peanut butter and chocolate are combined and smooth, poor the mixture on top of the cereal.
- Stir until all cereal is coated with the chocolate mixture.
- Add the powdered sugar and stir until all of the chocolate covered cereal is coated with the sugar.
- Add in the candy and pretzels.
Flavor variations
- Swap Rice Chex for Cheerios, or use a combination of both cereals.
- I’ve used red candies, but you can add any colored candy. Try a mix of red and green candies for a festive snack.
- The peanut butter can be swapped for any other smooth nut butter like almond or hazelnut butter.
- Use any flavor chocolate chips for coating the cereal.
- I’ve used pretzel sticks but you can add in regular pretzels.
- Add some dried fruits like cranberries or raisins.
- Stir some nuts into the mix.
- Add some mini marshamallows.
Recipe hints & tips
- Before you serve it make sure you check to see if anyone has a peanut allergy, since it does contain peanut butter. You can easily substitute for an alternative, if an allergy is an issue.
- Christmas Snack Mix makes a great gift, so double the recipe up, enjoy some yourself and bag up the rest to give away to family and friends.

Everyone said they would eat it if I would omit the cranberries. But I would eat it either way.
