Recipe ingredients

- BROWNIE MIX: use 1 box of brownie mix, any brand.
- EGGS: you will need 2 eggs to make the brownies.
- OIL: I use vegetable oil in the brownie mix, along with some water.
- DECORATION: I decorate these Brownie Christmas Trees with green frosting (see ingredient list and recipe below), holiday colored sprinkles and yellow stars.
Frosting ingredients:
- SUGAR: this is a butter frosting so use powdered sugar.
- BUTTER: use butter that has been softened to room temperature.
- VANILLA: I flavor the frosting with vanilla extract which has the best flavor. You can also use vanilla essence in a pinch.
- MILK: use any variety of milk to loosen the frosting.
- FOOD COLORING: I used green food coloring to look like the green of a Christmas tree.

Flavor variations

- Add a touch of spice with some ground cinnamon or nutmeg to the brownie mix.
- Use any color of frosting and sprinkles.
- I’ve decorate the tops of the trees with stars, but you can use any other pre-made icing decorations.
- You could decorate the trees with colored M&Ms to resemble Christmas baubles.
Recipe hints & tips
- When making the frosting use butter that is at room temperature, this will make the process a lot easier. A soft frosting is also easier to pipe.
- Don’t attempt to frost the brownies until they are completely cool, otherwise the frosting will melt.

FAQs
Once baked and frosted, store the Brownie Christmas trees in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I would not normally recommend storing brownies in the refrigerator, but due to the amount of butter frosting used to ice the brownies, the cool fridge is the best place for them to stop the frosting from spoiling.
Yes, they can. What I prefer to do is bake the brownies, cool them and cut them into circles. Then store the brownies in an airtight container until you are ready to ice them.
The frosting can also be made earlier in the day, placed into the piping bag then stored in the refrigerator until you are ready to ice the brownies. Just remember to take the piping bag out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before frosting the cakes and allow it to come to room temperature.
