Crescent Roll Blueberry Cobbler

My easy crescent roll blueberry cobbler is the perfect recipe when you want dessert, but don’t want to spend hours preparing it. Delicious blueberry pie filling topped with a crisp layer of sweet crescent dough pastry, is my idea of the perfect warming dessert, served simply with some whipped cream.

Using just 4 ingredients this is one of my go to recipes when I want a delicious dessert but don’t want to spend too much time preparing it. This easy dessert can be prepared, baked, and on the table ready to enjoy in just 30 minutes. Now that’s a winning recipe in my book any day of the week!

With my quick and easy blueberry cobbler recipe I use a can of blueberry pie filling, but you can swap this for any other flavor of canned pie filling. Apple and cherry cobblers appear regularly on my table too.

I always have a tube of crescent roll dough in my refrigerator, ready for when I want to enjoy freshly baked crescent rolls for breakfast. However, the dough can also be used to make a variety of easy sweet and savory dishes.

  • PIE FILLING: for ease I like to use 2 cans of blueberry pie filling.
  • DOUGH: for the cobbler topping I use a tube of crescent roll dough, pinching the seams together to make one sheet of pastry.
  • BUTTER: I brush melted butter over the top of the dough to give it that glossy look once baked. You can use salted or unsalted butter here.
  • SUGAR: I like to finish the cobbler with a sprinkle of sugar. Use regular white sugar or swap it for brown sugar for a deeper molasses flavor.

How to make crescent roll blueberry cobbler

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 7×11-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

Pour the blueberry pie filling into the pan.

Unroll the crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface and pinch the seams together.

Lay the dough sheet on top of the pie filling.

Brush the butter over the top of the crust.

Sprinkle the sugar over the top of the butter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the pie filling is bubbly.

Flavor variations

  • I’ve used blueberry pie filling, but feel free to swap for other flavors like cherry, apple, apple and blackberry, or mix summer berries.
  • You can swap a can of pie filling for your own homemade pie filling.
  • Add some ground spices to the pie filling, like cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger.
  • A teaspoon of vanilla extract can be added to the pie filling for an extra layer of flavor.
  • If you don’t have crescent roll dough, you can swap for some ready made puff pastry. Just check baking times on the packaging and adjust accordingly.

Serving suggestion

This deliciously fruit dessert is best served warm, straight from the oven. Serve it with some whipped cream, some warm custard or a scoop of your favorite vanilla or dairy ice cream.

Storage

Leftovers – Keep leftover cobbler in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to five days. You can reheat it in the microwave or eat it cold right out of the fridge. Either way, it will taste delicious! 

Freeze – It’s not a good idea to freeze the blueberry cobbler after it’s been cooked as the crescent dough will get soggy when it’s thawed.

What is the difference between blueberry crumble and blueberry cobbler?

A blueberry cobbler has a top crust made with pie dough, in this case a crescent roll pie crust. Whereas a blueberry crumble has a loose crumble/crisp style topping made with loose ingredients rubbed together (often including rolled oats) and sprinkled over the fruit base.

Is cobbler easier than pie?

Yes, a cobbler has a fruit base with a sheet of pastry dough placed over the top and takes minute to assemble. A pie takes longer to pull together and has a bottom crust of pastry, which is then topped with pie filling and often a further top crust of pastry dough.

What brand of crescent roll is best?

You can use any brand of crescent roll you find at your local grocery store, but Pillsbury is the best and is always consistent.
