Flavor variations

These easy pizza crescent rolls are really easily adapted to suit the pizza flavors you enjoy. Here are some suggestions:

  • Use any flavor of cheese that melts well in these pizza crescent rolls, try sharp cheddar, Swiss or pepper jack cheese.
  • Make them extra cheesy by spreading on some cream cheese along with the mozzarella.
  • Swap sliced ham for thin slices of salami or pepperoni, or add shredded leftover chicken.
  • If you don’t like pineapple on your pizza roll, leave it off.
  • Add a touch of chili heat with red pepper flakes, or jalapeno peppers.
  • Thinly slice some black olives and add to the mix.

Recipe hints & tips

  • Take time to properly drain the pineapple or you will end up with soggy crescent rolls.
  • Get ahead and prepare these crescent rolls earlier in the day, up to the end of Step 7 in the recipe card below. Then store in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake.
  • Add the butter glaze just before baking to avoid the rolls becoming soggy.
  • Pizza fans will also enjoy trying flatbread pizza. Select your flatbread base, add toppings, bake a few minutes, and dinner is served.

FAQs

Is crescent dough the same as pizza dough?

Crescent dough is a softer, laminated dough with many layers, whereas pizza dough is a bread based dough. However, crescent dough is a quick and easy substitute for pizza dough.

What can I use in place of crescent rolls?

Instead of using crescent dough, you can use pie dough, phyllo dough, or puff pastry for these pop-ups.

What is the best way to roll out crescent roll dough?

Use your hands or a rolling pin to roll out the dough. Be careful not to stretch it too much and make holes in the dough.

Can I bake crescent roll pizzas in the air fryer?

Yes, absolutely. Set the air fryer to 380 degrees F and arrange the pizza rolls in the basket in a single layer, then cook or 6-8 minutes until golden.
