Tips for success/variations:
Chocolate bomb recipes may look difficult, but they’re actually quite simple. Here are a few tips for success you can try.
- Make sure your hands are cold while handling the chocolate halves by holding them under cold running water so the delicate chocolate won’t melt while you’re putting the pieces together.
- You can also wear gloves to make sure your fingerprints won’t smudge the outside.
- Use a glass or microwave-safe bowl to melt the chocolate candy slowly. If the chocolate is heated too quickly it will separate and you’ll have to start over.
- It’s a good idea to remove the chocolate from the heat before it’s completely done melting and stir the remaining lumps until they are completely dissolved.
How to serve:
These chocolate bombs are drizzled with melted chocolate and have little toffee bits sprinkled on top. You can also drizzle on some salted caramel for color and flavor.
Place one in the bottom of a mug and pour hot milk over the top. Watch while the bomb “explodes” hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, and toffee. Stir it all together until the milk is thick and creamy with chocolate.
You can also pour the hot milk into the mug first and then gently drop the bomb into the milk. Either way is pretty dramatic.
How to store:
Since the chocolate has been tempered by heating it, you can keep it on the counter rather than in the fridge unless your house is unusually warm.
They also freeze well but store them in a plastic container so that if something gets set on top, the delicate bombs won’t break.
