How to make Rice Krispie Pops:
- Look out all your ingredients ready to start, particularly if you are planning this as a fun Easter themed activity for the children over the Easter holiday weekend.
- In large saucepan melt the butter over a low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
- Now remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Add in the Rice Krispies cereal and stir everything together until the Krispies are well coated in the marshmallow mixture.
- Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray.
- Set aside to cool and set the Krispies.
- Once set, cut the Krispies into 2 x 3-inch bars.
- Melt the pink candy melts according to package directions.
- Insert a cake pop stick into each Rice Krispies bar.
- Now dip the Krispie Pops into the melted pink candy.
- Set down on tray lined with wax paper (for easier clean up) and immediately top with sprinkles.
- Repeat until all Rice Krispies bars are coated in candy and sprinkles.
- Refrigerate for about an hour to harden the candy and enjoy!
Rice Krispies Pops with Easter Sprinkles Ingredients:
- RICE KRISPIES: I use 6 cups of Rice Krispies breakfast cereal.
- MARSHMALLOW: for ease I use miniature marshmallows to stir through the Rice Krispies. If you are using larger marshmallows cut them up first.
- BUTTER: you can use either salted or unsalted butter, either will work. You need butter to help the Krispies set, so do not be tempted to use margarine.
- PINK VANILLA CANDY MELTS: are melted so that the marshmallow krispie candy pops can be dipped into the mixture. You could also use melted white chocolate, or any other color of candy melts.
- SPRINKLES: I have used Easter themed sprinkles, but you can decorate with any sprinkle.
- CAKE POP STICKS: I buy my cake pop sticks in large packs from Amazon.
Recipe Variations:
This is a great recipe that is simple to make and really easy to adapt to add in other flavors. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- For added crunch swap the sprinkles for some crushed nuts instead, like hazelnuts, almonds, pecans or walnuts.
- To make Chocolate Rice Krispie Pops add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the Krispies and you can even stir through some chocolate chips. Then dip the Pops into milk chocolate and decorate with chocolate sprinkles.
- Change up the holiday theme! For Halloween Rice Krispie Pops add some cocoa powder to the Krispies, dip into dark or milk chocolate and decorate with Halloween themed sprinkles.
- Likewise for Christmas Rice Krispie Pops swap the Easter colored sprinkles for red, green and gold Christmas colored sprinkles.
Can Easter Rice Krispie Pops be made ahead?
These Rice Krispie Pops with Easter sprinkles are a great make ahead sweet treat. Make them up the day before and store in an airtight container on the counter top until you are ready to use. This makes them the ideal sweet treat for the busy Easter weekend.
Recipe Tips:
- I always spray the dish before adding in the marshmallow krispie mixture. This makes it a lot easier to get the sticky rice krispie bars back out of the dish once they are set. You can also line the dish with wax paper.
- Try not to press down too hard when making these sweet treats as you will break down the Rice Krispies making them hard and dense. Instead, gently combine the ingredients together and gently press into the tray, so they remain light and chewy.
- I like to use a buttered spatula or some wax paper to press the krispie mixture into the tray as it is very sticky with marshmallow and this stops it sticking to your hands.
- The butter not only adds flavor, but really helps to achieve that gooey texture to the krispies and also help them set. Do not be tempted to use margarine as it will not give you the same results.
- Don’t be tempted to freeze these Rice Krispie Pops as the krispies will soften too much during the defrosting process.
- If this is a kids party activity over the Easter weekend, set out the ingredients so you are ready to start. Then allow the kids to get involved and make and decorate their own Easter Rice Krispie Pops.
