Oven Baked Pork Chops
With this easy pork chop recipe I show you the best way to cook pork chops in the oven.
When making oven-baked pork chops I prefer to use bone in chops as the bone not only adds flavor to the meat, but also helps the pork retain moisture, resulting in juicy tasty chops every time.
This 4 ingredient oven baked pork chops recipe uses commonly stocked pantry items and just a few additional seasonings. I like to mix regular breadcrumbs with Panko breadcrumbs for the crispiest crumb coating.
This is a very flavorful pork chop recipe and one I recommend you try with your family. If you like pork try my Oven Baked Ranch Pork Chops, or my Brown Sugar Pork Chops.
Recipe ingredients
- BREADCRUMBS: I use a combination of breadcrumbs mixed with Panko breadcrumbs which add real crunch and texture to the crumb coating.
- OIL: I use vegetable oil but you can use any other light flavored oil like sunflower or olive oil.
- SEASONING: the breadcrumb coating is seasoned with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt and black pepper.
- PORK CHOPS: for added flavor I like to use bone-in pork chops.

Flavor variations
- I like to use bone in pork chops as the bone adds flavor and helps the chop to retain moisture. However, you can use boneless pork chops, just cut back on the cooking time.
- Panko breadcrumbs have a lovely crunchy texture, but if you can’t find panko use more of the regular breadcrumbs.
- The seasoning for the crumb coating is versatile, if you want to add in extra dried herbs or spices when you can do so. Try some smoked paprika, onion powder, dried oregano or dried thyme.
Serving suggestion
I like to serve oven baked pork chops with a potato side and some extra veggies sides. Green Beans make a great side dish try my Sheet Pan Garlic Potatoes & Green Beans, which incorporates both potatoes and beans on the dish, or my Roasted Green Beans with Bacon.
Recipe hints & tips
- Cut down on the cleaning up by seasoning the pork chops inside a Ziploc bag.
- Also, cover the bottom of the baking rack with foil, then discard once the chops are cooked.
- Spray the baking rack with non stick cooking spray before you place the pork chops on it. This will stop the chops from sticking.
- Pork chops should be baked uncovered in the oven, this ensures a crispy coating as the chops will bake rather than steam.
- A hotter bake will help prevent pork chops from drying out in the oven.
- For food safety, it’s important to cook pork chops until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.
- When testing the internal temperature of any meat, I recommend using an instant read thermometer, this is the one I use (and I’ll insert an amazon link).
- Always check the temperature a few minutes early, oven temperatures can vary according to many factors, and you don’t want to over cook the chops.
FAQs
The length of time it takes to reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F, depends on whether the pork chops are bone in or boneless, and also how thick the pork chops are. Here is a guide for bone in pork chops:
350 degrees F, about 45 minutes for bone in pork chops.
375 degrees F, about 40 minutes for bone in pork chops.

Yes, you can substitute bone-in pork chops for boneless pork chops in this recipe. They will require a shorter baking time, roughly 20 minutes at 350 degrees F.
When cooking pork chops in the oven I like to place them on a wire rack set over a baking tray. This allows the hot air to circulate around the chops and evenly cook the meat.
