Air Fryer Chuck Roast

Sharing is caring!

Air Fryer Chuck Roast is one of the easiest ways to cook a chuck roast. Coat the beef in my delicious marinade, then wrap up in foil to keep all the flavor in. Place into a hot air fryer then cook for an hour. Deliciously tender pieces of meat in no time, making this the perfect roast any day of the week!

Air Fryer Chuck Roast

I used a boneless chuck roast when making my air fryer chuck roast steak. This joint is great for slow cooking, but also roasts really well in the air fryer. This is a great budget roast recipe as chuck is a cheaper cut of beef, but one that is packed with flavor.

My family all love a roast dinner, but I don’t always want to spend hours tied to the kitchen preparing it. With my easy beef marinade, the whole dish is prepared in just 5 minutes, then all you need to do is wrap it up in foil and cook in the air fryer for an hour.

You can even get ahead, preparing the marinade and marinating the beef earlier in the day. Just wrap up the joint in foil then place in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook. The longer marinade will do no harm and only enhance the flavor of the beef.

Air Fryer Chuck Roast recipe ingredients

  • OIL: I coat the chuck roast in an oily spice marinade while it cooks. I opt for olive oil as it has the best flavor.
  • SAUCE: a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce adds great savory flavor to the marinade.
  • SEASONING: I season the marinade with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt and black pepper.
  • ROAST: I use a 2 pound chuck roast to serve 6 diners.

How to make Chuck Roast in Air Fryer

Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F.

Mix together the olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper in a small bowl.

Line the basket of the air fryer with foil and place the roast inside. Brush the seasoning mixture over the top of the roast and wrap the foil tightly around the roast.

Air fry at 350F for 50 to 60 minutes, unwrapping the foil from the top of the roast when 20 minutes remains on the cook time.

Allow the roast to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Flavor variations

  • Beef – I’ve used chuck roast steak in this recipe, but it would also work with other slow cook cuts like tri-tip roast, top round roast or bottom round roast (rump roast), or brisket. You will need to adjust the cooking times depending on the cut of meat used.
  • Spices – For this beef dish I’ve gone with a mild spice blend, but you can adjust the spices and add any variety of spices to the marinade. Try some smoked paprika, chili powder, or red pepper flakes. You could even use spice blends like Cajun or Taco.
  • Fresh herbs – add some fresh herbs to the pot, try rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, basil, or parsley.

Serving suggestion

I like to serve the beef with some creamy mashed potatoes. Or for something a little different try my Loaded Smashed Potatoes, Scalloped Potatoes with Cheese, or Garlic Potatoes and Green Beans.

I always add some extra veggie sides like my Roasted Green Beans with Bacon, Collard Greens with Bacon, Roasted Brussels SproutsSlow Cooker Brown Sugar CarrotsRoasted Carrots & Mushrooms, or my Roasted Broccoli.

Recipe hints & tips

  • Don’t skip the simple marinade, this not only adds flavor to the beef. However, it also stops the meat drying out, keeping it moist while it roasts in the air fryer.
  • Beef does vary depending on the size of joint you are cooking, so you may have to adjust cooking times a little, adding more time if necessary.
  • To check the chuck roast is cooked through to an internal temperature of 145F, I recommend using a meat probe thermometer.
  • When the roast comes out of the air fryer, set it aside to rest for 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute through the joint, resulting in more tender slices of beef.

How to store

Leftovers – Store leftover beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When ready to enjoy you can reheat to piping hot on the stovetop or place back into the air fryer to warm through.

Freeze – Once cooked and cooled, place the beef into an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator before warming up.

FAQs

How long to cook 2 pound chuck roast in air fryer?

It only takes 1 hour to roast a 2 pound chuck roast in the air fryer. Cook it until it reaches an internal temperature of 145F.

Are air fryers good for roasts?

Yes, absolutely! I love roasting meat in the air fryer, its quick to prepare and far more efficient than a regular oven for smaller cuts. The meat can be roasted quickly and with this easy recipe all I do is add a little spice to the beef for extra flavor.

Does chuck roast get more tender the longer it cooks?

Yes, chuck roast is a tougher cut of meat, with lots of connective tissue. However, it’s a cut that if full of flavor. This is not a quick cook cut, chuck benefits from a longer cooking time so that the meat and connective tissue breaks down, becoming more tender.
