No Bake Chocolate Cookie Dough Hearts
This easy cookie dough recipe is a variation on no bake cookie dough bites, but rather than rolled into balls, the raw cookie dough is shaped into hearts, before being covered in melted milk chocolate and decorated with sprinkles.
These best no bake cookie dough cookies require very little preparation. So don’t be discouraged by the 50 minute preparation time, as most of that is time chilling in the refrigerator. It should read COOL time instead of COOK time on the recipe card!
My kids really enjoy these, and it’s fun to make them together. They can practice their measuring skills, help mix the dough, and then have fun cutting out the shapes. They also enjoy dipping them in chocolate, and getting to lick the bowl when we’re done!
I’ve gone for a Valentine theme with the cookie shapes and Valentine colored sprinkles. However you can make these cookie dough cookies any time of the year. Cut into pumpkin shapes and add orange and brown sprinkles for fall. Add a touch of cinnamon to the dough and cut into Christmas tree shapes and decorate with green and red sprinkles for Christmas. The options are endless!
Chocolate Cookie Dough Hearts Ingredients

- FLOUR: I use all purpose flour.
- BAKING SODA: add to lighten the cookies.
- SALT
- BUTTER: if using salted butter cut back a little on the salt.
- SUGAR: I use a combination of granulated and brown sugar.
- VANILLA I use vanilla extract to flavor the cookie dough. Extract is best as it has the richest flavor, essence will work in a pinch.
- CHOCOLATE CHIPS: you can use any flavor chocolate chips to make cookie dough hearts, my preference is a combination of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the cookie dough and milk chocolate chips to ice the cookie hearts.
- DECORATION: you can add decorative sprinkles, but this is entirely optional.
How to make Chocolate Cookie Dough Hearts

- Combine flour, baking soda, salt, sugars, softened butter and vanilla extract in a large bowl. With clean hands, work the dough.
- Add 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and continue to work the dough until chocolate chips are incorporated.
- One tablespoon at a time, add water if needed to get the desired consistency.
- Lay a piece of parchment paper on a large flat surface (baking sheet or cutting board works well).
- Place the dough onto the parchment paper and spread it out evenly until the thickness reaches approximately 1/2”.
- Place the cookie dough in the fridge to cool for 20 minutes.

- Once cooled, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts from the dough (smaller cookie cutters work best to make bite-sized pieces).
- Combine the scrap dough continually to make as many hearts as possible.

- Once all dough is used, place 2 cups milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 15-20 seconds, stir and continue this process until chocolate is completely melted.
- Place one heart in the chocolate at a time and completely coat.
- Using a fork, lift the cookie dough heart out of the chocolate – tapping the side of the bowl to ensure excess chocolate drips off.
- Place the chocolate covered heart back on the parchment paper, and quickly add sprinkles (if desired) while chocolate is still melted.
- Continue this process until all cookie dough hearts are covered in melted chocolate.
- Chill in the fridge for 10 additional minutes and then serve.
Flavor variations
- Add chopped nuts to the cookie dough, try walnuts, pecans, almonds or hazelnuts.
- Use any flavor of chocolate chips, white, milk, semi-sweet or dark chocolate.
- Mix through some shredded coconut.
- Add dried fruits like raisins, sultanas, or chopped apricot.
- To make vegan chocolate cookie dough hearts, swap the butter and chocolate chips for vegan alternatives.
- For a gluten free cookie dough, swap the all purpose flour for almond flour.
Recipe hints & tips
- As the raw cookie dough contains butter, store the no bake cookie dough hearts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Cookie dough freezes really well, so once made the dough can be rolled into a ball, covered in clingfilm and stored in a Ziploc bag in your freezer for up to 3 months.
