These simple to make Taco Crescent Rolls are a fun twist on the traditional taco recipe.

Great for Taco Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, or any weeknight when you need an easy recipe to quickly assemble & cook.

About 20 years ago I was at a Pampered Chef party and the consultant made a Crescent Roll Taco Ring.

It was cute, but at the time there was just 2 of us, and it made WAY too much for us to eat.

Now, with 5 of us, three that are teenagers, it’s not enough.

Instead, we love these fun Stuffed Taco Crescent Rolls and the recipe is easily adjustable to make half for a smaller family, double (or triple, etc.) for larger families.

Taco Crescent Rolls

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the tomatoes with chilies and onion.

When the beef is cooked through, add the taco seasoning and water.

Reserve a small amount of taco seasoning for garnish, if desired.

Stir to combine.

Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens, around 5 minutes.

When the beef is cooked, remove the pan from heat and set aside.

Taco Crescent Rolls

Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate the triangles.

Spread two to three tablespoons of meat mixture over the bottom of the triangle and press it into place.

Top with one tablespoon of shredded cheese

Then carefully roll up the dough.

Place each crescent roll on an ungreased baking sheet.

Taco Crescent Rolls

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the crescent rolls are golden brown.

Combine the butter and reserved taco seasoning and brush over the top of each crescent roll.

Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving, if desired.

What substitutions work well with Taco Crescent Rolls:

  • You can easily swap the ground beef for ground turkey or ground chicken, for a healthier option.
  • You can use low fat versions of all ingredients
  • Too salty? Use low sodium Taco Seasoning
  • Prefer it to be creamier? Spoon a layer of room temperature cream cheese on the bottom of the crescent before adding the meat mixture.
  • Need to be Dairy Free? Leave out the cheese!
  • Want spicier? Add some hot sauce to the meat mixture, some red pepper flakes, or even diced jalapenos.
  • Rolls too plain? Try the various flavors of crescent rolls, we really like the buttery and honey butter versions!
  • Want to make the recipe stretch further? Add some black or pinto beans, or some Mexican Rice
  • Top with black olives, enchilada sauce, taco sauce, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, sliced jalapenos, or Pico de Gallo.
  • Find the rolls too time consuming? Layer one can of crescent rolls in the bottom of a baking dish. Add all toppings. Top with second can of crescent rolls and bake. When it’s done, slice into squares to serve.

Can Taco Crescent Rolls be made ahead of time?

Yes! You can easily prepare this meal in advance and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake it later that evening.

Sometimes I will just prepare the taco meat mixture in advance and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before you need to finish the assembly and bake the crescent rolls.

How to store leftover Taco Crescent Rolls

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Taco Crescent RollsHow to freeze Taco Crescent Rolls

Yes!

This is a great freezer meal because you can freeze the Taco Crescent Rolls before or after baking, but I think they reheat better before baking.

Be sure to wrap tightly in freezer appropriate materials, store in a freezer safe container that has been clearly labeled with the contents and date, for up to 3 months.
