Pokeball Rice Krispy Treats
Pokeball Rice Krispy Treats
My boys have loved Pokemon for many years. They watch the shows and movies, trade cards with friends, play with action figures, play the game on their phones, and have Pokemon themed clothes. Since they also get a kick out of themed snacks and treats, I thought it’d be fun to make some Rice Krispie Treats into Pokeballs! These are super fun, and would be a hit at a birthday party, school class party, bake sale, festival, or any gathering for kids and/or adult Pokemon fans!
You’ll need just a few ingredients to make the Pokeball Rice Krispy Treats. Butter, Marshmallows, Rice Cereal, Red Gel food coloring, Red decorating frosting, black fondant, and white fondant.
Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside. In one medium-sized saucepan, melt 1 tbsp butter over medium-high heat. Pour 1 cup mini marshmallows into buttered saucepan and stir until melted. Remove saucepan from heat. Fold in 1 ½ cups rice cereal and stir until all ingredients are well combined. Roll mixture into 2 inch spheres – you will need 5 of them. Place gently on lined baking sheet. In a clean, medium-sized saucepan repeat the same steps with your remaining butter, marshmallows.
Once you remove the saucepan from the heat, add red gel food coloring and mix until completely tinted. Fold in remaining rice cereal.
Roll into 2 inch spheres – again, you will need 5. Place gently on lined baking sheet and allow to set for at least 15 minutes.
Cut each sphere in half using a serrated knife.
To assemble, frost the top of each white rice cereal treat portion and place a red portion on top.
Roll out black fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. Use a paring knife to cut out 10 strips – about 1/3 of inch in thickness and 7 inches long.
Wrap one strip around the center of each Pokeball.
Use the bottom end of a Wilton icing tip to cut out 10 black fondant circles. Place one fondant circle on the strip of the Pokeball. Roll out white fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. Use the bottom end of the same icing tip to cut out 10 white fondant circles. Stick white fondant circle on the black fondant circle. (Hint: usually the fondant is sticky enough to hold on its own but if not, you may use your decorating frosting to secure). Serve and enjoy.
