Horse Show Nutters
Horse Show Nutters
These horse themed Nutter Butter Cookies would be a perfect treat for any horse lover, to take and sell at a horse show or rodeo concession stand, or to a Triple Crown party. A friend of mine was fortunate to win tickets to the Kentucky Derby this year, and I texted a picture of these to her, she’ll be making some and taking them to a pre-Derby Race party herself 🙂 The process may look involved to some, but they are really pretty easy to make. Once you’ve melted the chocolates and dipped them, you can be as creative as you want to be with decorating them!
These are the supplies needed to make these Horse Show Nutter Butter Cookies:
• 10 nutter butter cookies
• 2 ½ cups melting chocolates in brown, dark brown, and black, depending
on the colors you choose for your horses and alternating colors for mane.
• ½ tsp coconut oil
• candy eyes
• nonpareils sprinkles, candy flowers
Additional items:
• ramekins and pan for double boiler set up
• piping cones
• chocolate dipping wand or fork
• wire cooling rack
• parchment paper
Set up double boiler with shallow pan and ramekins for each color chocolate. Fill with water till half way up side of ramekins. Be careful not to get water inside them as it will seize the chocolate. Turn heat to medium low. Add chocolates and smidge of coconut oil to each, stirring to combine as they melt. Using wand or fork, dip nutter butter cookies in chocolate until thoroughly coated. Hover above dish as chocolate drips off.
Set on wire rack to harden.
Spoon brown melted chocolate into piping cones and draw ears onto parchment paper. Use a toothpick to define them and make extra. Put in refrigerator to harden.
Dab toothpick into brown chocolate and onto horse head where you want to place the eyes and quickly add the candy eyes.
Using same method of attaching candy eyes, apply decorative sprinkles and nonpareils to create harness. Fill piping bag with melted chocolate and quickly apply horse mane around ears, using toothpick to define across harness.
Add more embellishments, like candy flowers near the ears. Set to dry and harden. Store in airtight container. This quantity makes about 10 cookies.
