Instant Pot Boneless Ham

Pressure cooker ham is a dish that can be eaten all on its own and the leftovers can be used in tons of other recipes. It’s especially popular during the winter holidays all the way through the spring. It’s one of those meals that bring back memories of the season and a feeling of comfort.

This is a wonderful substitute for buying a Honey Baked ham from the store. It’s much less expensive and there’s so much pleasure from making it yourself.

This one-pot ham is made by placing it in the bowl of the instant pot, pressing brown sugar to the sides, and pouring pineapple juice all around it. Use the manual setting to cook the ham and then quickly release the pressure.

To make a glaze, remove the ham and sauté the remaining sauce until it’s thick and syrupy. Pour the sugary sauce over the savory ham for a beautifully balanced dish. Be careful to watch the glaze so it doesn’t burn. Serve the spiral sliced ham on a large platter.

Tips for success and variations:

This ham recipe is delicious just as it is, however, you can change it up a little if you’d like.

If you don’t have an instant pot, you can make this dish in the oven instead. Just heat it to 325° and bake the ham for around 20 minutes per pound.

Pineapple juice is a great balance to ham, but you could also use another sweet and sugary liquid like maple syrup or honey for the glaze.

Serve this dish with a fresh vegetable side to lighten up the meal and add some balance of flavor and texture to the meal. Some ideas are roasted broccoli, cauliflower, or asparagus, or a crunchy, bright green salad.

How to store Instant Pot Boneless Ham:

Here’s how to store leftover ham:

Place the ham in an air-tight container or zip-top bag and place it in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can eat it cold, warm, or cut up and put in another dish like ham and bean soup.

Freeze the entire ham in a freezer bag and then thaw it in the fridge.

You may want to cut it up into chunks and store it in individual portions if you’re freezing it though. This will allow you to pull out just what you need instead of an entire spiral ham if you’re planning on using it for other meals.

FAQs:

Do you cover a ham when you bake it?
Yes, you want to cover the ham to make sure none of the moisture evaporates and it stays nice and juicy. In this recipe, you’re making it in a pressure cooker, so you’ll need a lid for this recipe to work.

How long does it take to cook a 4lb boneless ham?
A 4-pound boneless ham takes about 16 minutes to cook in the instant pot. If you’re cooking it in the oven, cook it for around 20 minutes per pound, so 1 hour and 20 minutes or so.

Is bone-in or boneless ham better?
A bone-in ham is great if you’re going to use the bone to flavor a soup later. If you don’t need the bone for another dish, a boneless ham works great so you don’t need to worry about slicing around it later.
