Sprite BiscuitsSprite Biscuits

These Sprite Biscuits or Sprite Rolls are super easy and fast to make and my kids LOVE them. They devour the whole pan, and ask for them anytime we need rolls to complement dinner. My Sprite Biscuits are also the perfect biscuit or roll to serve at BIG Holiday meals like Christmas Dinner, Thanksgiving Dinner, Easter Dinner, or any other family gathering.

I make my Biscuits with Bisquick and Sprite, others use 7-up to make them, and call them 7-up Rolls. Any lemon-lime soda will work just fine, even Diet, if you prefer.

I’ve also heard them called Bisquick Butter Biscuits, or if you add cheese, some call them Bisquick Cheese Biscuits. There are many variations of Bisquick Biscuit Recipes, because it’s a pretty versatile base for biscuits.

What are Sprite Biscuits?

Sprite Biscuits are simply a biscuit recipe with sour cream and Sprite. The Sprite doesn’t add a citrus flavor to these biscuits, instead the carbonated drink works with the baking mix to produce light and fluffy biscuits.

My Sprite Biscuits are best enjoyed warm straight from the oven. However, you can also store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days, although I rarely have any leftovers. When ready to enjoy, I pop them back in a warm oven to heat them up a little before serving.

How to make my Sprite Biscuits recipe:

  • Sprite BiscuitsPreheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Pour melted butter into an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  • I put the butter into my pan, and place it in the oven so it can melt while the oven is heating up. *NOTE: DO NOT FORGET it’s in there, you don’t want a fire! If you’d rather, just melt it in a saucepan and pour it into the pan.

  • Flour the waxed paper, so it’s ready for the dough. Fold the Sour Cream into the Bisquick mixture, then pour in the Sprite.

  • Once the dough is formed transfer to your floured wax paper.

  • Now knead your dough until it’s ready to be cut into biscuits.

  • I add a bit of Bisquick to the top of the dough to keep it from sticking to my hands while kneading.

Recipe ingredients & flavor variations:

  • BISQUICK BAKING MIX: is the baking mix that I like to use as I always have a box in my pantry. You can substitute with other similar baking mixes.
  • SPRITE: I use Sprite to make these biscuits, but you can substitute with any other lemon and lime flavored drink. Others use different drinks and call them by the name of whatever they’ve used, such as 7-up Rolls, Sierra Mist Rolls, Mello Yello Rolls, etc. I’ve never tried the other drinks when making this recipe, but I’ve heard they pretty much all taste similar once the biscuits are cooked.
  • SOUR CREAM: Adds great savory flavor to the biscuits and keeps them moist and fluffy.
  • CHEESE: Can be added to these tasty biscuits for a real savory flavor. Simply grate some cheese, something like a strong cheddar would work here, and mix through the dough along with the sour cream.
  • HERBS: Fresh or dried herbs can also be added to the dough, parsley, thyme or dried mixed herbs would taste great in these biscuits.

Recipe tips:

  • Don’t overwork the dough! If you work the dough too much you will end up with tough biscuits. Instead just bring the dough together gently, before kneading and cutting. The less you handle the dough, the lighter the biscuit.
  • Cut out the biscuits and get them straight into the oven. The quicker you get these biscuits into the hot oven, the better the rise.
  • Feeding a crowd? No problem, this recipe is easily doubled up to cater for larger numbers.
  • I like to make thick biscuits and this recipe gives me around 6-8 thick Bisquick Sprite Biscuits. If you roll the dough thinner you will need to use a larger tray.

How to serve Sprite Biscuits?

My versatile Sprite Biscuits made with Bisquick and sour cream are the perfect savory biscuit to accompany any meal. I like to use them anywhere where you would serve a regular bread roll. They are fantastic with a bowl of warm stew or soup and are great for mopping up sauces and gravy.

No roast dinner is complete without my Sprite Biscuits. You will always find these biscuits on my table for any holiday like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter. Indeed any family gathering where I’m feeding a crowd.

If you’ve never tried baking these biscuits then give them a go as they are a tasty accompaniment to any dinner.

Can I freeze Sprite Biscuits?

You sure can. I like to make a double batch of these tasty Sprite Biscuits, I serve one batch and freeze the other for another day.

Simply bake the biscuits, allow to cool completely and place in an airtight container in the freezer for up a month. When I’m ready to serve I defrost the biscuits before warming them up in the oven and serving.
