Why is it that whenever you are planning to have guests over for dinner or a cookout, that the plumbing picks THAT DAY to act up. Obviously the kitchen pipes are getting extra activity, but that doesn’t mean they need to rebel and cause a scene. Because really, a backed up pipe with water going the WRONG WAY out of the kitchen sink doesn’t do anything for the appetites of your guests. The water needs to drain, not flood the kitchen.
Sadly, we’ve had way too many plumbing issues over the years, so we are all too familiar with when we need to call a plumber to the rescue, and when we can fix it ourselves. If you are ever unsure, I always advise a conservative approach, and go with the plumber. Yes, it may cost you more than a do it yourself repair, BUT, it will save you thousands if the issues causes your house to flood. We’ve been down that road! I also advise getting a professional for hot water heater installation, especially for gas hot water heaters. The previous homeowner here did it himself, and when it went out, we hired someone who found numerous issues with the previous install. We were fortunate that our house had not burned to the ground!
